ABIDJAN (Reuters) - France is to station a force of gendarmes in the capital of Burkina Faso to react swiftly in the event of another attack by Islamist militants in West Africa, Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said on Tuesday.

Benin to deploy troops to anti-Boko Haram task force

COTONOU (Reuters) - Benin will deploy 150 troops next month to assist a regional task force battling Islamist militant group Boko Haram, a statement from the task force said on Tuesday.

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (Reuters) - A Nigerian government push to strangle the Boko Haram insurgency has shut down the cattle trade that sustained the city of Maiduguri, leaving many residents with no livelihood, including many of the two million people displaced by the war.

GRAND BASSAM, Ivory Coast (Reuters) - Gunmen from al Qaeda's North African branch drank beer at a beachside bar before launching a shooting rampage at an Ivory Coast resort town that left at least 18 people dead, the group's third major attack in West Africa in four months.
