UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Nigeria has formally asked the U.N. Security Council al Qaeda sanctions committee to blacklist the Islamist militant group Boko Haram after the kidnapping of hundreds of schoolgirls, U.N. diplomats said on Tuesday.

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain said on Monday that a military surveillance aircraft it had despatched to help search for more than 200 missing schoolgirls in Nigeria had broken down en route.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States has come to an agreement allowing it to share some intelligence with Nigeria to bolster the search for more than 200 girls kidnapped by Islamist rebel group Boko Haram, the Pentagon said on Monday.
KANO (Reuters) - A suicide car bomber killed five people on a street of popular bars and restaurants in the northern Nigerian city of Kano on Sunday evening, in an area mostly inhabited by southern Christians, police said.
